She’s Growing Up!!

Posted under Daughters, Ex's, My Observations

I spent yesterday moving my oldest from the college housing into a townhouse off campus.  This becomes just another chapter in her life.  She see the beginning of what is going to happen in her young life and I get the opportunity to look back and see how she’s grown to this point.  Amid all the chaos of moving furniture, clothing, bedding and other things I watched a young confident woman taking charge of her life.  I miss the little girl who would ask me a hundred questions all beginning with the word “why?”.

Her mother and I both drove up to help her make the move.  Since our divorce the kids are the one of the few things we don’t argue about.  Maybe as parents we’ve made sure that they come first.  It was good to watch us as a “family” go about what we needed to get our oldest settled in her new place.

I guess the moral of this story is to stay focused on what’s important.  I know that sounds cliché but when parents divorce the emphasis needs to be on not screwing up the kids.  Let’s face it.  It’s not their fault you and your ex blew it.  STAY FOCUSED…..

Where’s the Testosterone?

Posted under Family

Imagine a household where you’re the lone male.  I have a wife, two teenage daughters, one teenage step daughter, two female cats and a female dog, I can’t win.  My home has more teen drama than your average after school special.  Between schools, boyfriends, friends and other family members there is constant tragedy going on under this roof.  Four menstrual cycles going on at different times throughout the month can drive a man to hid in his garage.

My wife married a moderately domestic man (yeah, me) who’s not afraid to clean and run a vacuum once in a while.   So doing the laundry is something I handle pretty well.  However in my household it can be an adventure.  Who knew that they made panties so small, and why are my daughters wearing them.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the females in my family (there is one cat I’m not too fond of) and having them in my life has given me SOME insight into the fairer sex.  I’ve learned patience that I never knew I had.  Boys you can yell at and they just get mad back.  Girls will take it personally and pout or even worst they’ll never let you forget it.  Their powers have such a strong impact on me that I lose all sense of logic.

Starbucks and Diapers..

Posted under My Observations

Well, it would seem that daily writing is not working for me yet.  Since I’ve started this idea of writing for the world to see, the ideas have been flowing.  And not just from me: my wife, the kids, friends, and people standing in line at Starbucks with me.  Just yesterday I was in line again as a result of my caffeine addiction and overheard three women talking about mommy stuff.  Diapers, toddlers, and potty training (oh the days!).  This went on for sometime; I mean the lines at Starbucks are outrageous.  So over hearing their conversation, I chuckled.  I remember those days and how proud I was to be an amateur expert on the diaper change.  I could have my girls out of a dirty one, cleaned with a well powdered bottom and into a fresh diaper in just under 30 seconds. All the girls in line went aww! Telling my wife the story she just rolled her eyes.

Now, I don’t know what has happened to the American male and their aversion to dirty diapers. I mean they clean up after their dogs? And they can sometimes drop a much bigger load than most kids.

In The Beginning…

Posted under My Observations

Mickey at St. JohnWhat the hell was I thinking about, starting a blog!  I’ve never done this or anything like this before.  I’ve spent time doing personal journals but hey, they just end up lost with everthing else I’ve ever written.  The internet is forever (?).  This is something that could out live me.  Now the writing part.  What am I an expert in?  Everyone who writes these things are experts in something be it high techie stuff, or personal management, making money the easy way, fitness trainers, any number of things.  What have I done that someone would want to read about.

I’m a middle aged (God, I hate that term!) married man living in Southern California.  Pretty much white bread middle class chasing his tail to stay ahead.  I have a new wife and three teenage daughters.  Yes, I said new wife.  The last one left me to find “greener pastures” but left me with two beautiful teenage daughters I adore and new wife and a beautiful teenage step-daughter.  Testostrone is limited at my house…..

I’m going to try this for a while and see if there is a anybody out there (I can hear you breathing) who might be interested in my observations, or not.
