I Love This Time of Year!
Posted under My Observations by MikeCan I just say I LOVE THIS TIME OF YEAR!
I know this post will alienate some of you. If you’re not a fan of this time of year you won’t understand. Making this year special is that my home team is in it.
Being a baseball fan since forever, this time of year holds my attention more than the Super Bowl, NBA playoffs, or the Stanley Cup. I know it’s sacrilegious for those of you in this country that actually have a winter. No snow here in the So Cal.
Baseball has been called the thinking man’s game. I’m not putting down other sports. God forbid. As a red blooded male, I enjoy watching and participating in them all. But baseball holds for me the anticipation and excitement of the pitcher going after the hitter. It’s the strategy of setting up the right combination in the lineup to go against the other team’s hurler.
My team the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (don’t get me started on the name) are in the playoffs again. This will be the fourth time in the last five years. They were the 2002 World Series Champions who came through the playoffs as a wild card team to beat some pretty good teams. ![]()
Blogging has given me the opportunity to enjoy the game as well. Some friends like Mattdaddy, Above Average Joe and Dad Gone Mad are all baseball fans. This is a time of year we get the chance to puff up our chests and brag.
I will be stationed in front of my television (wide screen LCD in HD) to watch every inning. My wife, bless her heart will be accommodating to me. She will run interference with the kids and the phone to allow me to have this time (BTW I love you honey). There will be a beer at my side, and my wife may even spend some time with me enjoying the game.
So with all that is going on in our country right now, banking bailout issues, recession worries, Dancing with the Stars eliminations and Britney’s comeback, thank god we have baseball.
So who’s your favorite team and why do you think they’re going to win?

GO SAWKS!!! Duh, like I wasn’t going to chime in
I’m in the same place you are Mike, totally excited for October. Can’t wait to watch you go down in 3 games like last year
Yeah, that’s pride talking. I’ll tell you what my head is saying after game 3, k?
Baseball is much better to watch and pay attention to, mostly because they play so much more. There are so many more opportunities to see a game in your favorite park than in any other sport.
Plus, I have been a Sox fan for almost 30 years, so I deserve something extra every season!!!
Lightning will probably strike me dead, but I’m predicting it’s Halos/Sox vs Chicago Cubs and as much as I would like their drought to be over, I think AL is going to win this year.
Wake me when college hoops starts.

My favorite team? Um. You mean in “Survivor”, right?

@M@: No Cubbies. They whine too much!
@Russ: OK so this post wasn’t for you. I’ll watch for yours come March Madness time.
@stepping over the junk: You’ve got to be kidding, right?
Umm, I’m a Twins fan. I’ll be in a cave for a little while. Last night was a tough one. Can’t say that I have much love for the Angels. Hope you understand

Not a fan of the majors. We don’t have a team and Seattle sucks. I do like Oregon State baseball. I still can’t believe they were not invited to the post season last year even though they won the two previous college world series.

I live in a mixed family household(very rare and hard to hold together in these parts). Mr. Weasel and I are displaced Tribe fans, who root Cubs. Eldest is all about the Sox. We are hoping for a cross town classic so that the trash talking may begin!

So, I go to a game with you last night, and what happens? (I did enjoy finally getting to one). And, you’re still responsible for getting your own beers during the games on TV.
Why cant your Angels start earlier than 7pst? I got to stay up til 1:30 in the morning to watch the Red Sox defeat the Halos.
And what’s up with Vladdy trying to go to 3rd?

Complete and utter Red Sox fan. And, y’know, sorry about that. Sort of. Ok, not really. But we still have to get thru Tampa Bay, which scares me no end.
