Anti Climatic

Posted under How I See It by Mike

The day after the Christmas holiday is always an interesting one.  You’ve spent so much time getting ready for the big day.  The mad rush to buy presents.  You’re frantically setting up the tree.  Remembering to invite that distant aunt while making party plans.  Hastily writing Christmas cards to everyone in your address book, and just plain getting yourself into the festive mood.

Then the day after arrives and you look at that tree and dread that it must come down.  The decorations need to be put away and gift boxes and wrapping paper need to be stored.  There is the shoving of new clothing into the closets all ready overloaded.  The anticipation of fighting the same crowds you did to buy this stuff as you go to return the sweater from your aunt with Santa on it.

I’m fortunate today.  I’m at work.  I know most of you would say, “Why is that fortunate?”

This is the first day back at the office for me in a week.  I’ve been nursing my wife and her foot after surgery and with all the hustle and bustle of Christmas, this was a nice respite.  A breather if you will.  I have no agenda today.  No stores I have to rush off to, no decorations or tree to bring down.  Just a time to exhale (stole this from M).  A time to count my blessings and regroup for the coming year.

I have my life and health, all of which are pretty damn good.  A beautiful wife who loves me and puts up with my guy stuff.  Three gorgeous daughters who are turning into beautiful young ladies before my eyes.  I live where I don’t have to dig out of the snow and the beach is within a bike ride.  I have a job (so far) that provides for us.

So I’m going to sit here today (slow day at work) and cruise the blogsphere and catch up with my friends.  Find out how their holidays went and take the time to wish them the best.

Who needs the excitement…

Happy Happy New Year to you! (um, do you always wear pink?). Enjoy some down time and say hi to that wonderful lady of yours. I hope she is faring well with healing her foot!

  2. terri Said,

Well, being at work doesn’t sound like so much fun to me, but if it’s allowing you to decompress, more power to you! I’m decompressing at home…being lazy and loving it.

That’s a nice blue hat you’re wearing. Do you really have a need for something to keep your head warm?

  4. Anne in SC Said,

My day after Christmas is usually crazy too, but we’ve given the children go carts that have created hours of laughter and fun today. The tree and day after doll drums are being postponed right now – I’ll wish I had a job to retreat to on Sunday.

  8. Cocotte Said,

Having your health and such a great family is really all you need. But yeah, that beach sounds pretty good to me in December (though it was actually in the 60′s today which will only make tomorrow’s 40 degrees be extra painful)

  9. m@ Said,

I could be wrong, but are you wearing a hat? Do the California Snow Police know you have one on? They might have to arrest you.

Glad the wifey is feeling okay, and that you had a nice relaxing day at work.

I hear you on the “day after Christmas” syndrome. I’m thinking a slow day at work isn’t too bad :) So glad to hear your wife is doing well. Hope you’re having a lovely weekend.

I’m dreading taking down the tree.
