She Said Yes…
Posted under WifeThere I was standing on the sand on a beach in the Caribbean. People are milling about, getting the food ready, taking pictures, setting up the video camera, a minister talking to me as I’m half listening. The scene at the time was a little surreal.
Nine months earlier I was single. Being divorced for the last five years after being married for more than a decade and a half brought a new perspective. I enjoyed dating, but I was looking for a relationship again. A partner who I could spend the rest of my life with. Someone who would “enhance my life.”
Then she appeared one day in May, Mother’s Day to be exact. Her picture on the dating site was cute. I started my mental check list of things I was looking for while I read her profile.
I already established she was cute (recent picture), Check
The right age (just a couple behind me), Check
Her daughter is a teenager (I don’t want to raise young kids), Check
Stable job (teacher, close enough), Check
I said she was cute, right? Check
OK so my list wasn’t very long, but it was important.
I called her and we met that afternoon of Mother’s Day at a wine bar near her house and talked for hours. It was like meeting someone for the first time and yet feeling so comfortable with them. Things just “clicked.”
She and I dated for the next five months. I met her daughter, she met my two girls. We had long walks and talks about anything and everything. I was falling hard. I asked her to be my wife.
Which is why I was standing on that sandy beach in the Caribbean watching everything around me in a surreal way. But all of that melted away as I stood there next to the minister. Our daughters stood with us to witness our vows. She walked up to me in her white dress looking as beautiful as ever. When the minister asked her the question,
She said yes…
Happy Third Anniversary Honey.
