Your Not Sick Are You?
Posted under How I See It, Wife by MikeMy wife and I just spent the last three hours going over insurance options and it wasn’t pretty. HMO’s, PPO’s, basic, standard, premium. Deductibles, co-insurance, co-pays.
Arrgh!!! My head hurts and there isn’t enough alcohol in the house to help.
There is not only the wife and I but we have three teenage daughters to keep insured as well. One of them is type one diabetic. Do you know what the cost is for insulin?
I think insurance companies purposely confuse us with the many options and varied coverage’s that they offer. It never seems that you can compare apples for apples in these plans.
And to put icing on the cake, the company I work for may or may not retain my services. They are offering me a chance at insurance, but they might be canning my ass by the end of next week. So this three hour excursion into blowing my brain up could all be for naught if I’m not retained.
So here are to you the global insurance companies and your confusing benefit plans. Here’s to your high premiums and even higher deductibles. Soon you will find that you can’t bleed a turnip. No matter how hard you try…

Amen! I agree that they are purposefully confusing and almost impossible to compare. Just use darts.

Yikes! I go through that mess every November. I try to just stick with the same plan to make it easier. What really gets me is the whole flexspend thing. It’s like playing the lottery – will we have an ER visit next year or won’t we? How many times do I think I’m going to get sick? Who needs new glasses? What a game….

I’m sorry. About the insurance decisions (just did this ourselves – ugh), and the uncertainty. Prayers for you are coming!
Honey, you made it sound much easier than it really was. Thank you for suffering together.
Can’t you go on your wife’s insurance plan? That way you don’t have to pay cobra or anything – or did you mean as part of your severance, that you may get insurance at regular rates?
Going thru this all is a PITA, but when you have special cases like your one daughter, it’s torture.
We should go back to school to learn it all and start a company that makes figuring out all this crap easy

I hate the insurance thing. Fortunately for now, I am on my exhusband’s as part of our settlement. The girls will always be covered by him. When I no longer have child support, mine will be gone and I pray health insurance simmers down and simplifies by then. (I will be old)

Oh man… when I was just out of college I had to pick my insurance plan and it gave me a headache just trying to figure out what they all meant.
Now I have an HSA- which is short for I pay 100% of my medical bills, but I can put money into a savings account pre-tax. (And it doesn’t disappear if I don’t use it) I’m going on the hope that I never get sick, of course.

Amazingly, we don’t hear much about insurance companies letting anybody go recently.

WeaselMomma – Darts and alcohol sometimes doesn’t mix, especially with darts…
Cocotte – I think the lottery might be a better way to go, I’ll let you know…
Anne – Thank you for the prayers…
The Wife – I’ll always be there to suffer with you. Just as long as we have fun doing it…
Matt – I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy…
Movin – I can’t see it getting simpler, just most complex. Let’s not get old, ok…
Cubicle – Let’s hope for the best. I like that setup…
Heather – Been there, wish I had advice for you…
Joe – Yeah, funny how that seems to be the place for job security. Might need to look soon…
Ewwww, insurance plans! Not fun!
My husband agonized for weeks over whether to stay with traditional insurance or to switch to an HSA account. Just when I’d think we’d agree on something, he’d have to start questioning things again. Made me crazy.
Here’s hoping you’re able to hang on to your job.

hoping all is alright out there. You guys have been in thoughts and prayers today.
That SUCKS! We were just looking at the hospital bills for my son’s broken arm from his slip & fall right before Christmas.
Unfortunately we just missed meeting our deductible for last year. We also will have more expenses with my youngest son’s upcoming oral surgery. We will probably not meet our high deductible which we would have met if we could have postponed the accident or rushed into the tooth extraction. (neither was an option)
Self-insurance is bleeding us dry! I’m ready for socialized medicine… Hope everything works out for you.

We have decided to just be healthy or die. It’s cheaper, but more painful. We pay $60 bottle for our dog’s NPH insulin. She uses about one per month. Stuff ain’t cheap, but not so long ago we didn’t even have the stuff!!

First they take away the ability to use credit cards for on-line gambling … so we can’t gamble.
Then they make us have to chose an Insurance Plan … forcing us to gamble.
When will this madness end!

Yikes, Well first lets hope you hang on to your job.
Secondly, our government has a lot to do with all of this. Working for a pharm company myself, decisions made in Washington effect us all. Pretty soon they’ll tax that industry off shore too.
One of my pet peves (sp) is everyone blaming the pharm companies for prices. Fact is, the gov’t taxes us to death. There’s a lot more, but this is YOUr blog. LOL
Check with the manuf. for availablilty of reduced insulin. It’s there.
