Tax Prep..

Posted under How I See It by Mike

My wife and I are seeing our tax consultant this evening and bracing for the inevitable bad news.  Uncle Sam and his tax tables will probably determine in his infinite wisdom that we will be writing him a check.

It never fails.

I love my tax person.  Not only is it amazing to watch her fingers fly over that calculator but her head is so full of tax tables, rules and percentages.  She knows who, what and where the money can and cannot be used.

Tax forms are not a puzzle to her.  I don’t mind paying her fee to assist us in our yearly obligation to Uncle Sam.  She gets it right.  I probably wouldn’t.  Strike that, I know I wouldn’t.

This brings me to my question.  If a guy like me can find the right tax person to do this year in and year out, then why can’t those who want to represent us do it?

Tom Daschle, Nancy Kilfer and Tim Geither, I’m talking about you.

Could it be that…

  • You thought H&R Block was the way to go?
  • That you didn’t read the instructions carefully on Turbo Tax?
  • That your calculator ran out of batteries?

President Obama, please make sure that the Secret Service checks out your nominees and their tax forms a little closer.  You may also want to talk with your friend Bill Clinton.  He had the same trouble back in 1993 with a couple of his nominees.

And for Tom, Nancy and Tim, I can get you the number of my tax person.  She’s amazing…

  1. Cocotte Said,

What it all comes down to is that politicians, and government employees in general, think that they are above the law. And the rest of us are forced to write our big ole check on April 14th to pay these bozos.

  2. Mike Said,

Cocotte – Amen to that. Now if we could only get them to take care of their obligations…

  3. m@ Said,

It’d be nice if there was such a thing as an honest politician. I’d often wondered why if there are term limits to Presidents, why aren’t there the same limits for Senators and Congressmen?

  4. terri Said,

I have the solution. YOU run for office. I will vote for you!

We pay to have ours done too. Better safe than sorry.

  5. Lanny Said,

I had to laugh at your H&R Block comment. I worked for the tax commission in college. A very large percentage of our problem returns came from them.

It’s really disgusting that these guys can’t do what they ask the average guy to do. I’m ready for them to have the same benefits we get rather than a set of their own.

  7. OhCaptain Said,

Well, not I sure I’d send them to H&R Block, they royal screwed up my taxes a few years ago, but it’s amazing how many of the nominees have had tax issues.

  8. Weaselmomma Said,

No wonder these people don’t mind raising taxes, they don’t pay them anyway!

  9. Jen Said,

Ugh. The ‘t’ word. Mr. C seems to think we’ll be getting some good money back this year but I’ve been trying to tell him that we make too much, have no kids, and aren’t married. It ain’t gonna be pretty!!

But yeah, how do these people who have all this money ‘forget’ to pay taxes or whatever. Even H&R Block says they’ll stand behind the returns that they do!

  10. above average joe Said,

It amazes me that these people don’t get thoroughly checked out to avoid these messes.

  13. Daddy Forever Said,

I use H&R Block – the online version. I wonder if I should worry.

On the tax front, I’ve noticed that if I only make half of what I use to earn, I actually get a refund instead of a balance due.
