Almost Like Winning the Lottery…

Posted under How I See It by Mike

lottery

The other day I’m sorting through the day’s mail.  We got a ton of it all at once.  I’m beginning to wonder if the postman saves some of it and just springs it on us at once.

So anyways, I’m sorting through this stack of magazines, envelopes and those annoying coupon inserts.  Sports Illustrated Swim Suit issue goes over there, along with my cigar catalogs to be perused later.  Various bills from the utility companies and insurance correspondences go over in another pile.  Envelopes with “unbelievable offers” to cut my credit card interest go in to the “to be shredded” pile.

Then I came upon this blank envelope.  No return address, just mine on the front.  It looked like junk mail and I contemplated tossing it in the shred pile.  Thankfully, curiosity got the better of me, that and I’ve shredded stuff I wasn’t supposed to (i.e. child support checks) in the past.

I tore open the envelope and found a check for $104.00 made out to me.  What the hell was this about?  What did I do to deserve such a windfall?

Closer examination showed that it was a payment fromGoogle”.  They actually paid me for having a couple of ads up on my blog site.  Shock doesn’t begin to describe how I felt.

After WeaselMomma’s experience with them a few months ago, and my declaration that we should be all be clicking each other’s ads, I thought no way was I ever going to see a red cent from them.  But, there it was in sitting in front of me.

Now, what to do with this windfall.  The wife and I could go to dinner on it.  I could spend it on a box of really good cigars.  I could stick it in the bank for when I’m out of a job in June.

Or I could pay for my host site another year and annoy all of you with more blogging.

Hmmmmm…

That would surprise me. I had to scroll back up and see where the ad was. Do you have veto power if you don’t like the product they want to advertise or are you at their mercy?

I’m the kind of person who has thrown mystery envelopes away too. I’ve had to dig through garbage before too looking for misplaced mail. **sigh!** Glad to know I am not alone!
