There’s No Living with Her Now…

Posted under Daughters by Mike

I knew this day would come.  I’ve imagined it a hundred times.  The scenario running through my mind like a bad dream.  And now what was once was unreal has become reality.

It struck me as she appeared from back stage to accept her award.  Because she was going on stage to perform right after this award she was dressed in costume.  She walked up to the presenter received the trophy, smiled to the audience and walked back to the rear of the stage to prepare for her upcoming scene.

I don’t think she had any expectation on winning.  She had hoped, but wasn’t really anticipating anything.  But there she was standing on the stage before all her peers accepting her award for “Best Comic Actress in a Play.”

You see, my middle daughter is an aspiring “thespian.”  No, not a lesbian!

She is developing the fine art of theater on the high school stage.  As if there wasn’t enough drama in being a teenager, she’s decided to major in it.  This will no doubt lead into a choice of some fine arts liberal college (just shoot me now) where she will probably find herself studying the Paul Newman (or Paul Lynde) drama style.  Upon graduating, she’ll pursue the life of the stage while delivering your dinner order.

This was her first major award for theater.  There will be many more, I’m sure.

And I’ll have to live with her, and her drama, and her ego.

Congratulations.

  1. Anne in SC Said,

So, it’s not just me with the ‘up early’ problem – let’s meet for coffee next time.

Congratulations to your daughter! How very exciting! My daughter wants to be a thespian (not lesbian) too, but I haven’t found an avenue for her yet (she’s only 10).

I can’t wait to be able to say, ” You know that girl in (insert name of latest comedy blockbuster)? Well, I (kinda) know her Dad!”.

Woo hoo! Congratulations to your daughter! My daughter, Marissa is an actress, also. She graduated from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas.

  9. Otter Said,

Congrats on the award. Everytime I hear the word thesbian I think of Jon Lovitz as Master Thesbian on SNL. Your comment about the liberal arts school cracked me up.
