I’m So Proud…

As a devout, card carrying Republican I thought the Fourth would be a great time for reflection.  A time when the more conservative, right wing, limited central government and tough interventionist foreign policy group finds it needs a “major makeover.”

First it was Republican Senator John Ensign of Nevada, who admitted in a news conference three weeks ago to having an affair with a former staffer.

Then in a bid to top that, South Carolina Republican Governor Mark Sanford after days in which his whereabouts were unknown by his wife and staff (who thought he was hiking on the Appalachian Trail), held a tear-filled and rambling news conference to admit to an affair with an Argentine woman, and to apologize to his staff and the voters of South Carolina for not democraticdisclosing where he was.

And to top it all off, my favorite burnet with glasses from the great state of Alaska, Sarah Palin has decided to step away from her responsibilities as Governor at the end of the month.  No explanation, other than she wasn’t seeking another term as Governor and didn’t want to be a “lame duck” administrator.

Walking away from a job is not the best way to set yourself up for a run for higher office.  You’ll just look like someone who can’t finish the job.  Let’s hope it’s for a better cause, like finishing that book deal or staying home to care for your Down syndrome son.

So there you have it.  In the span of a month, we’ve seen our leaders shirking their responsibilities of family and job.  Placing a their values in question.

Being a Republican is a very tough label to have these days.  Even in conservative Orange County.  After eight years with Bush the last thing the GOP needed was bad publicity.  This past month has been a dozy.

I used to think the Democratic Party was nothing but a bunch of “jackasses.”  Lately, I’m seeing that the Republican Party has a lot of skeletons in their “trunks”, and they’re blowing it, big time.

Happy Fourth of July, no matter what your party affiliation is, because today we are all one big happy family…

No doubt that jackasses come from all different party affiliations. I am ready root for a person who actually has it together, shares my principles and is ready to lead this country.
