A Novel Idea…

Posted under How I See It, Work by Mike

I’ve been contemplating this for some time now.  During the holidays I met up with some friends who know of my situation.  Out of work and living in the sunshine state.  We talked about what I’ve been doing to keep myself out of trouble.  I told them basically writing anywhere and everywhere.  Of course suggestions of getting a job writing came up.

Again, I had to remind them that jobs are hard to come by at the moment and it’s not like I haven’t been trying.  The conversation got onto other things when one of the guys said, why don’t you write about your time looking for a job this past year.  Talk about the trials and tribulations of a late 40′s man looking to secure work in a really bad economy.

As a writer this struck me as something plausible.  I’m not sure how I will put this together yet, but the wheels in my head are breaking the dust and rust off and it seems very interesting.

Now having the opportunity to live in Southern California and enjoying the sunshine most days, I thought of a title “A Year In Shorts.”

Anybody know a publisher out there?

  1. M@ Said,

Dude, I’d buy it, even to just hear about cigars and the trials and tribulations of the whole layoff.

Be careful about mentioning the company tho, ya know?

I love it! Go for it!

Write first. Look for publishers second. I’m pretty sure that’s how it works. Just write!

  4. poetrystruth Said,

Love the title…but I think it should contain more broad topics…just life in general with the job hunting being a back drop. The stuff you and you’re wife say to each other is priceless.

    Good Luck

  11. Jeanie Said,

Great title…I can’t wait to read about your year in shorts. Not so much about your attire you choose each morning but more so about the time on hand to really think about things and what your perspective is on this trying time in the economy. I’ve wondered lately about the great depression and people’s attitudes and outlook on things during that period of time (other than consuming large amounts of alcohol and smoking).
