Starting Your Child in Braces

IMG_0893

When is it Time for Your Child to Start Wearing Braces?

For many of us the time for braces happened at a time when it could not be anymore awkward, our teenage years.  Flashbacks of headgears worn constantly day and night and the taunting of “tinsel teeth” and “brace face” made us all cringe.  However, dental processes have changed through the years and braces on teenagers can be a lot less stressful.  As a parent, you can see orthodontic bills on the horizon as your child approaches those preteen years.  Finding out when it is time to start braces if needed is an important topic you need to discuss with your dentist.

When to Start Braces

Your child should have a consultation before they start school or at least by the age of 7 according to the California Association of Orthodontists.  Though it may seem like an early age by most parents, orthodontists usually want to see your child at a young age to spot any dental issues early before they turn out to be much bigger ones.  As a child gets older, the problems get tougher and longer to correct.

Options Types of Braces

If your child is diagnosed needing braces, treatment usually begins between the ages of 8 and 14.  Many orthodontists will give your child a free examination with no commitment to treatments.  Your child will also have many more choices when it comes to having braces.  The standard structure of what braces are and do for orthodontics has not changed, advances in techniques and materials have.  To help temper the negative social and physical effects of braces, orthodontics have developed newer dental care equipment.  Your child can have standard metal braces, ceramic braces, or clear aligners that are invisible braces.

The Argument for Braces

Recently there has been a strong backlash towards not spending the money and time on braces for your child.  Some parents believe that the process is just not worth the money and that their child will be just fine.  However, braces are not just there to provide your child with a great smile.  Braces that straighten teeth help in chewing process and will improve the oral hygiene of your child.  Straight teeth provided by braces can even improve your child’s speech and as they grow older, it can improve their self-confidence.

I have been a great fan of Bob Hope for years and feel that he and I share a great many things.  We both love to laugh and try to surround ourselves with funny people.  We both seem to enjoy the great outdoors especially the golf course.  Unfortunately I’ve only played golf with one celebrity  so far in my life.  Bob Hope has a way with people and seems to enjoy sharing his life with them, something I try to do myself.  Bob Hope found the love of his life Delores back in 1933 and they became life long loves.  I found my love only after many years and hope that she becomes my live long love.

Bob Hope and I share one other thing, we were both born on May 29th.  Bob Hope lived to see his 100th birthday and was a testament to living a life of laughter will keep you young forever.  I have crossed over that half-way mark and hope that I continue living a life much as he lived his.

“I have seen what a laugh can do. It can transform almost unbearable tears into something bearable, even hopeful.”

Running a Successful Home-Based Business

Learn How to Make Money from Home and Balance Your Life

Working from home has many advantages.  One is the tax savings that you acquire while working at home.  The average person running a home-based business can save about $2,500 a year on their taxes.  Add to that the opportunity to balance not only a career but also a family life.

While running a home-based business it is important to balance your work and your family life.  It is important that you have a separate space for your home-based business.  In that space, you are working, and when you are out of that space, you need to leave the work there.

In a home-based business, it is important that you establish some sort of accountability.  You and your business need to be connected with other businesses and people who can give you structure.  These people will help you to stay connected, to set business goals, and to help you establish good accountability.

Any home-based business will not be successful if you don’t market it well.  Look to utilize the power of the social media.  Twitter, Facebook, blogs, and online stores are important in marketing your business.  Home-based businesses can make just as powerful marketing impression on the public as a huge corporation.  Include You-Tube presentations to get the audience that wants to see your product or service and not just read about it.

How to Deal With a Bad Neighbor

We have all had them at one time or another.  A bad neighbor who is just a pain to deal with.  It doesn’t matter if you live in an apartment, a condo, or a home; bad neighbors are everywhere.  The process of dealing with bad neighbors isn’t too difficult if you follow these three simple steps toward resolving bad neighbor issues.

1. Open Communications with Your Neighbor

Most neighbors who are bad obviously don’t know that they are disturbing you and your peaceful neighborhood.  Some neighbors are just unaware of their surroundings.  It is always best to wait and see if the issue you have with your neighbor is a one-time thing or a repetitive problem.  If it persists, get some face-to-face time with your neighbor so that they understand peaceful co-existence is something you are striving for.  Schedule a convenient time to meet with your neighbor to discuss your issues.  Beware that your neighbor may get defensive and want to argue with you.  Remain calm and let your neighbor vent his or her frustration.  Many times that will diffuse the situation and calmer heads will prevail.

If your neighbor won’t meet you face to face, then you will need to follow up your initial complaint with a letter.  Having something in writing and you will be able to explain to your neighbor your side of the situation.  Calmly write to them that you would like to resolve this situation in a manner that will appease all parties.  If needed, have several neighbors add their signature to your letter.  This can have a much greater impact on getting the point across to your neighbor.

2.  Use Mediation with Your Neighbor

An impartial third party arbitrator sometimes is needed in a neighborhood dispute.  The arbitrator will try to find a fair solution to your problems and help to open communications between the two parties.  Many local communities have mediation centers just for neighborhood issues.  The impartial view of a third party can give neighbors a chance to negotiate a mutual solution.

3.  Head to Court When All Else Fails

Litigation in court is usually the last resort and nobody really wants that.  However, understand that court proceedings can be expensive and nobody can be sure of the outcome.  You may think you are in the right with your bad neighbor; however, you are at the mercy of the court and the judge.  The judge may choose to listen to some evidence and not others.  This could be bad for your side of the story if the judge does not hear it.  Small claims court for your neighbor can be another way to respond to a bad neighbor.  However, a judge could see it in your favor and award you money, but the judge cannot make sure that your neighbor will pay.  Unfortunately, winning in small claims court may make you feel better, but your neighbor may not stop their bad behavior.

Advice on Reading a Woman’s Body Language

When you go to a party or a bar, not every woman has a sign hanging over them letting you know if they are interested in fun or they just want to hang out with friends.  To find out if a woman is interested in you or not, you need to be able to focus in on the restrained cues she is showing.  You need to look at body language, clothing, and her facial expressions to find out what her intentions might be.  I’ve got six really good tips to help any man read a woman’s body language and find out if he’s got a shot or not.

1.  It All Starts with the Smile

The smile is usually the first sign of whether a woman is interested in you or not.  Look for that smile if she is looking at you.  No smile and it is very likely that you are not her type.  Take that as a strong hint to move on to someone else.

2.  Follow the Shoulders

The shoulders are the windows into a woman and her self-confidence.  If you see that her shoulders are drooping then she probably has bad posture.  A woman with good posture is a woman with a good sense of herself.  They are confident and in a very positive mood.  This usually means she is more open to a connection with someone.

3.  Checkout What She is Wearing

How a woman dresses for a night out will tell you exactly how she sees herself and how she wants others to see her.  If a woman is dressed sexy, she obviously put some effort into it to attract others.  It won’t matter if it is a sexy dress or a sexy t-shirt and jeans, when she dresses hot; she usually is looking for attention.

4.  The Hair is Important to a Woman

A woman’s hair can tell you a lot about her intentions.  If she has her hair pulled down around her face, she is hiding from attention.  This tells anyone approaching that they need to be watchful.  On the other hand, if a woman starts to toss her hair, flips it, or just plays with it, it is usually a good sign that she is flirting with you.

5.  A Woman and Her Friends

Too many friends around a woman and the body language messages can be too confusing.  A pack of women is usually too focused and involved with their own conversations and the eye contact is between them.  If there are only two women together in conversation, then the opportunity to connect is much better, especially if they are scanning the room.

6.  When Body Language Says Approach

The above tips are usually the more subtle hints that a woman’s body language will indicate to you.  However, some are a bit more blunt.  If a woman begins to arch her back or stick out her chest or pelvic area in your general direction, she might be saying to you that she is very approachable.
